| 2010 Fly Fishing and Art Week
Mid -September 2010 will see the first week offered for fly fishermen and artists together in a lovely lodge on the Bighorn River near Fort Smith, Montana.
Wanda Mumm and the Bighorn Lodge invite artists of all levels to join them for a week of painting and fly fishing adventure. Painting options will include studio time and plein-aire field time. The picturesque Big Horn Lake in the Yellowtail Recreation area has unusual red rock outcropping and cliff walls waiting to be captured in paint. The variety of tree and shrub vegetation will provide endless collections to add to scenes of the river or lake settings. The vastness of Big Sky scenery will provide many sky types to work with for painters. The classes will take place over 4 days with a fifth day option to try a painting on your own under the guidance of world renown artist Wanda Mumm. Wanda will spend 4 days showing you the techniques of painting landscapes in Montana including color mixing, composition and painting great scenes. Studio classes will be right in the lodge itself. Artists may work in a variety of medium including oil, pastel and watercolor. Wanda will be working in oil for fieldwork days.
Fishermen will have the option to come early or stay later if they want to paint and fish. Strictly fishermen can accompany an artist companion and fish while the artist paints. All participates will stay at the Bighorn Lodge or cabin during the week. The lodge on the Bighorn is located directly on the bank of the Bighorn River and offers anglers a unique opportunity. The tail water from the Bighorn reservoir offers approximately 7,000 catchable fish per river mile. The unusual situation of the tail water deep from the lake offers perfect fish habitat in the river.
Our meals will be together for breakfast and dinner and picnic type lunches will go with each group of artist or fishermen.
If you have never experienced the Bighorn River and surrounding National Recreation Area, treat yourself to a week on the river to capture scenery in paint or fishing unparalleled.
We are in the planning stages and will be updating this site as we firm up the details.
